Roads

North Ayrshire Council are currently discussing proposed work on the String road and also on the A841 from the are upgarded earlier this year towards the Brodick Castle.

As the details are finalised we will publish here.

NAC also provide regular updates for roadworks across the area including Arran as appropriate.

 

Brodick Terminal Development

CMAL provide updates on the progress of the construction of the new terminal at Brodick which is forecast for completion summer 2017

 

Action on Hearing Loss Scotland Hearing Aid Clinics

Monthly clinics are scheduled to be held at the War Memorial Hospital

 

Scottish Families Affected by Alcohol and Drugs

Is someone you care about misusing alcohol or drugs?

Community Planning Partnership

ACC participate in North Ayrshire's Community Planning Partnership - Community Engagement Network meetings which are held four times per year.

Elderly Forum

An ACC representative attends the Elderly Forum.

The Elderly Forum meets on the third Wednesday of each month in the Ormidale Pavilion from 11am until 1pm.

The meetings are open to all residents aged 55 and over. Details and topics for the meetings can normally be found in the Arran Banner.

 

Youth

The Community Council are very keen to hear from all sections of the community and in particular all the residents who look forward to a long and happy working and leisure life here.

Current Planning Applications

Planning applications for Arran are notified to the Community Council on a weekly basis and if required to respond we will discuss and submit a reply to the specific applications requested by NAC planning Department. These responses can be viewed on the NAC planning website using the specific application ref No.

Transport & Roads

The Community Council continue to work with our local and national representatives to develop a strategy for the improvement and development of the islands roads. Working with the NAC roads department we have developed a good relationship which ensures the local views and priorities are discussed and notification of works is published on a regular basis.

 

NAC Roads Maintenance programme for 2016

North Ayrshire Council have provided a summary of planned road maintenance for the island for 2015.

 

Ferry Committee

The ACC representative to the Ferry Committee is Jim Henderson.

Isle of Arran Ferry Committee meets on the second Monday of each month and the chairman is Iain Thomson. Their AGM is held in June and is open to the public.

 

Clyde Ferry Users Group

Arran is represented on this group by a represntative from the Ferry Committee and NAC Cllr John Bruce.

We have also asked to be made aware of future meeting agendas in advance to allow us to submit local points to our representative for inclusion at these meetings.

 

Concessionary ferry fares increase.

The Community Council have been involved in this forum which is managed by SPT and continue to monitor the actions and proposals from their meetings. They generally meet only twice per year and NAC is represented by Cllr John Bruce, with whom we will work closely to ensure the best outcome for the residents.

Environment

Forestry Extraction Work Group

Following a presentation from the Forestry Commision to the Community Council in May 2015 a working group was established with the following brief:To critically review and advise the Forestry Commission on its strategic objectives for timber extraction on Arran and evaluate all proposed options.

The minutes from these meetings will be available here when approved.

 

Environmental Panel

Richard McMaster attends the Forestry Environmental Panel meetings with the Forestry Commission. These meetings are held four times per year and are intended to inform the local community of Forestry plans and intentions in Arran and offer an opportunity for contributions.
